Glenn wins A Class States on new Prototype

Glenn has won the 2009 Victorian State Titles on the new A Class Catamaran Prototype!
Below are a couple of snaps of the prototype taken from the recent titles at Blairgowrie Yacht Club on the 7th-9th of March.

New Ashby Sailcraft/Gel-tek A class coming soon!

Stay tuned for more information regarding the launch of the new prototype Ashby Sailcraft/Gel-tek A class.
This boat will be launched at McCrae Yacht Club on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula on Saturday the 28th Feb at 11am.
A full press release and details of the boat will be available online on the 5th of March.

The boat incorporates new innovative design further pushing the boundaries of an already thriving developmental class.
Whilst being a leader in A class sail and rig design, Glenn Ashby has taken his thoughts and ideas on hull shape, platforms, foils and rig to the next level with this exiting new product produced by Ashby Sailcraft in conjunction with Gel-tek Quality Composites.

“After winning the recent world championships in Belmont on the already proven Flyer Mk2, I have made the decision to see how far we can go with a new design both in sail plan/ rig configuration and platform design. I am very excited about this new boat and am sure I have taken some steps in the right direction to increase the performance of the current A class designs. I am really looking for ward to launching this boat on the 28th Feb”

Ashby and Bundock Claim Olympic Silver!

World champions Darren Bundock and Glenn Ashby have finished second to the Spanish crew of Fernando Echavarri and Anton Paz in the Tornadoes.

olympic silver

In the Medal race the pair admitted they erred at the race start, costing them all hope of grabbing the gold medal that had eluded Bundock in two previous Games appearances.

“It’s my first Olympics so to come away with a silver medal I’m happy,” Ashby said.

“We’re a little bit disappointed . . . with the start we had, we just got too far back.”

In the windy conditions off Qingdao Bundock and Ashby were 9th at the first marker and a shattered rotation arm on their mast only aggravated their desperate attempt to make up the required points difference.

They finished fifth, with Spain - holding off the challenge in fourth - winning gold and Argentina taking bronze.

“We came here to win gold, but sometimes things don’t always go the way you like,” Ashby said.

“Spain were very strong all week long, they hardly made any mistakes.”

Bundock says he and Ashby were not able to get to the front, but they are pleased with securing silver.

The medal is Australia’s third for sailing in the Beijing Games, after gold in the men’s and women’s 470 class.
